Amazon MP3: The Good Guys are Winning
Published 27 September 2007
Hi! You've stumbled upon a blog post by a guy named Ryan. I'm not that guy anymore, but I've left his posts around because cool URIs don't change and to remind me how much I've learned and grown over time.
Ryan was a well-meaning but naïve and priviledged person. His views don't necessarily represent the views of anyone.
It seems like I don't post before 2 a.m. anymore, but I'm so stoked that sleep can wait. Amazon MP3 has just opened, and it is very cool. I purchased two Pink Martini albums that I've been dying to get but was unwilling to compromise on DRM. The download thinger they've built is decent, but would not add my songs to iTunes.
This is too exciting. Corporate executives are starting to learn that the only way to sell things online is not to treat your customers like thieves. Hopefully this new store will convince other vendors to push into the DRM-free download business. As to Microsoft, Walmart I'm not holding my breath, but Yahoo! has already tried.
I can only hope that NBC is next.
