The New Place

Published 8 August 2004

Hi! You've stumbled upon a blog post by a guy named Ryan. I'm not that guy anymore, but I've left his posts around because cool URIs don't change and to remind me how much I've learned and grown over time.

Ryan was a well-meaning but naïve and priviledged person. His views don't necessarily represent the views of anyone.

It is officially official: Ryan Cannon has signed his life away and become a member of the Alma College staff. This isn't a position to be lamented however: part of the package was a free apartment, and my office staff if taking a vacation day tomorrow for a trip to Cedar Pointe. The also have dragged me to the Young Church. The sermon guided by a powerpoint slideshow, and a movie about modern martyrs played to the tribal beat of drummers raised ten feet above the crowd. Thought provoking at least.

Ahh, interior decorating…after spending almost two hundred dollars this weekend on a shower curtain, rug, rod and bathroom set, fancy black sheets and a purple shag rugh, the place is starting to look a little human. Plus the cable modem has come, which makes updating this site possible.

The most pertinant thing to share is the new toilet-top book Deedee purchased for the apartment. Eats, Shoots and Leaves the Zero-Tolerance Approach to Punctuation (ironically lacking a hyphen on Amazon.com) offers support to those of us who shout "to whom, not to who" at radio adverts. Plus it provides me the melodic reverie of British slang.

For those interested, germs of ideas are slowly budding in the design section. My current project, script enchanced stylesheets, is starting to bear fruit. Hopefully it will give some help to any designers like me, mulishly sticking to web standards.
